Too many bills Commercial Services for Bill Consolidation For a fee you can find a company to do just about anything for you, and bill consolidation is no exception. With the high number of consumers having personal financial strain or problems, there is no shortage of people needing help. Additionally, a large majority of folks are not well-versed on basic money management for a household. As a result, the perfect combination exists for smart marketers to offer "help" for a fee. And people jump on the offer by the hundreds. Bill consolidation services offered by a company are generally no different in benefit than what you can do for yourself. In many cases such companies use the same tools and methods as described earlier. However, the services work for those who don't want to worry about managing their finances or don't fee smart enough to understand all the related issues. Unfortunately, there have also been cases of unscrupulous companies. In such instances payer fees as well as their funds have been taken in by such companies, and no bills ever got paid. Instead, the service company pocketed all the funds and kept telling the payer everything was taken care of. Done by the dozens, this sort of theft can add up to a large amount of cash very quickly. While there are complaint records at local and regional better business bureaus to reference, most people don't know or try to check out bill consolidation service companies before they sign up for a program. As a result, scams have proliferated, making people having a tough time financially get into a worse situation. Some state governments have passed laws since the 2000s restricting the activities of bill consolidation services and requiring their staff be certified and the companies licensed. This sort of regulation has cut down on some of the fly-by-night operations that stole people's money. However, much of the consumer protection today still depends on the consumer himself checking out a service company before handing over funds and fees. Conclusion Bill consolidation shouldn't be confused with the more recognizable practice of debt consolidation offered by commercial service providers. Much of what bill consolidation involves can be practiced and implemented by a consumer without having to pay for help. However, plenty of services do exist and offer their help for a fee for those who don't or can't manage home finances themselves. The trick to effective bill consolidation is to remember the principles of cash flow and controlling expenses to produce excess income. At that point the bill payer can then consolidate debt bills and eventually eliminate them, reducing the number of bills received every month. Also, it helps to remember just because you have a service bill, you don't need to pay for the full amount. Remember the above example with the house phone versus the cell phone. Many consumer bills can be trimmed to just what is necessary, reducing monthly costs that don't need to be paid. Bill consolidation is not a formidable, scientific technique of money management, despite whatever financial advisors and salespeople may tell you. It only involves simple self-control, watching where your money goes regularly, and avoiding spending money blindly. Too often consumers get easily caught up in what seems needed for comfort rather than what is needed to live. As a result, people very quickly get overwhelmed with bills far sooner than they realize how to manage them. And once you do get a handle on your bills, eliminate your debts, and learn to live monthly on what you bring in, then you'll be able to enjoy financial independence. In fact, you may get so used to being frugal you can begin to leverage real savings for both short-term, and long-term goals like retirement. All of these benefits can be within reach with bill consolidation and other techniques to control personal spending.
